The players at the net are responsible for blocking and setting. The players in the back row serve, receive, spike, and defend. This drill has two variants:
- The player at the net on the opposing side decides how the server should toss the ball: with his left hand, with his right hand, or with both hands.
- The player at the net on the opposing side decides how the serve should be tossed as well as the type of serve: topspin or float.
